Item Group

For: People organising products and services into groups

Purpose: Understand what the Item Group master does and how it helps you categorise the items you sell


What This Module Does

An item group is a category for the products or services you sell (for example, Raw Materials, Finished Goods, or Services). Grouping items makes them easier to find and lets you report and filter by category. Item groups are shared with ABSS Books, so the same categories are used across both products.

The Item Group master lets you:

  • Create the groups you use to categorise items.
  • Search and list your item groups.
  • Rename a group.
  • Delete a group that is no longer needed (only when no item is using it).

Main Features (What You Can Do)

1. Create an Item Group

You create a group by giving it a name (required).

  • The system generates a unique group ID automatically (e.g. IG-001).
  • The name must be unique within your company (case is ignored, so "Services" and "services" count as the same).
  • Once created, the group appears when you add or edit an item.

2. View and Search Item Groups

You can list all your item groups and search to find one quickly. The list is paginated.

3. Edit an Item Group

You can rename a group. The system checks again that the new name is not already used by another group in your company.

4. Delete an Item Group

You can delete a group only when no item is using it. If one or more items belong to the group, deletion is blocked so your items keep a valid category.
